For Edmonton author Arlene Laskey, life itself has always been a pilgrimage—a journey of courage, faith, and rediscovery. Her newest release, Quest for the Enlightened Pilgrim, invites readers to walk beside her along Spain’s legendary Camino de Santiago, where every sunrise brings a lesson and every step becomes a meditation on the self.

Part travel adventure and part spiritual quest, the story follows a young pilgrim navigating the physical and emotional challenges of the Camino. Along the way, Arlene captures the essence of pilgrimage—the balance between solitude and connection, struggle and joy, movement and meaning—that transforms all who walk this ancient path.
As she shares in her Wanderlust Chronicles story, Walking the Camino: The Outer Journey and the Journey Within:
“As I walked, I trusted my intuition and practiced faith and gratitude.”
That simple act—of faith guiding each step and gratitude lighting the way—became the heartbeat of Arlene’s transformation. A nurse by profession, she began her second pilgrimage, the Camino Portugués, after the intensity of the Covid-19 pandemic. Seeking stillness and reconnection, she put her phone away, trusted the yellow arrows, and allowed the rhythm of walking to return her to herself.
“On that day, the universe conspired to give me a special experience,” she recalls. “I did not meet a single pilgrim. I spoke to only two people—the servers at the cafés where I stopped. Even the café con leche was special.”
That blend of solitude, faith, and presence carries through her debut novel, Quest for the Enlightened Pilgrim, a story that unites her love for the Camino with the teachings of The Master Key System—an early 20th-century philosophy of harnessing thought and spiritual awareness. Through this lens, Arlene invites readers to consider pilgrimage not just as a journey across Spain, but as a journey within—a hero’s journey of awakening.
Arlene is also one of the featured authors in the international bestseller Wanderlust Chronicles: Transformative Travel Tales, which recently reached #1 on Amazon in Travel Biographies & Memoirs. Though she couldn’t attend the Puerto Vallarta launch in person, she was there in spirit — part of a global circle of women whose stories of exploration and empowerment continue to inspire readers worldwide.
Now, Alberta readers will have a chance to meet Arlene in person at her upcoming book signing at one of Edmonton’s most beloved literary landmarks.
